FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I have never done Jiu-Jitsu or any martial art before, can I still train?

Yes! A common query that gets raised by most newcomers. You can start Jiu-Jitsu at any stage of your life and you don’t need any prior experience. Our GB1 Fundamentals classes will guide you step by step and are well suited for newbies.

I am currently not very active, am I fit enough to do Jiu-Jitsu?

Many people delay starting their Jiu-Jitsu journey because they think that they need to join the gym to get fit first. This is not necessary! Practising Jiu-Jitsu will help you become a fitter, stronger and healthier version of yourself. Weight loss and increased stamina is two of the biggest benefits that our students have noticed since starting their Jiu-Jitsu journey.

I have never trained Jiu-Jitsu, am I too old to start?

You are never “too old” to begin your Jiu-Jitsu journey. We have students who have started their Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle from varying ages and even compete at the age of 50 yrs+!

Am I likely to get injured learning Jiu-Jitsu?

Our students are taught and learn in non-competitive environment, whereby we are able to minimise the risk of injuries. There is a mutual respect on the mats where your training partner is there to help you learn and grow and in turn you do the same for them. Students are taught how to ‘break fall’ and safely land to ensure their safety comes first.

How long does it take before I can progress to the next level?

That depends on your level of dedication and commitment. The more you practice the art the quicker you are likely to progress. However, every person learns differently and at different rates. Like anything, what you put in is what you will get out.

What is the Jiu-Jitsu Lifestyle?

The Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle is all about YOU! To adopt the Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle is to put you first. Learning to have sustainable habits, improve your wellbeing, balancing between work life and social life and creating a healthy life and mind. Become the best and happiest version of you possible!

I want my child to learn self-defence, how do I know this is the right martial art?

We can’t tell you that it’s the “right one”, but we can guarantee that they will learn discipline, self-defence, boost confidence, and become more independent through learning Jiu-Jitsu. You can book your child in for a free trial and see how they enjoy Jiujitsu – it’s free! There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain.
